Moving day
Five steps from walkthrough to setup
Every move follows the same order. You know what happens when, so moving day holds no surprises.
- 1
Walkthrough
We build the inventory and check floors, elevators and parking. You get the price and date in writing.
- 2
Packing
Fragile items get wrapped, boxes are labeled by room, and furniture is taken apart.
- 3
Loading
Heavy pieces go on the bottom, boxes on top. Each tier is strapped down.
- 4
Transport
The truck goes straight to the new address with no transfers. On long hauls we share the location.
- 5
Setup
Boxes go to their rooms, furniture is reassembled, and we check off the inventory before you sign.
Your belongings protected, every step in writing
Valuation and claims process →- Protection
- Every move includes basic released-value protection at no extra charge, and full value protection can be added and priced in your written estimate.
- Damage claims
- Visible damage is noted on the inventory at delivery. For damage you find later, a written claim within 30 days is enough on local moves; interstate moves allow up to nine months under federal rules.
- Documents
- USDOT number, MC number, Certificate of insurance. Shared on request.

Common questions
What people ask before a move
What determines the cost of a move?
The four main factors are the volume of your belongings, the distance between the two addresses, stairs and elevator access at each end, and the date. Packing, furniture disassembly and specialty items such as pianos are priced separately.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks ahead is a good rule for a weekday move. Weekends, month-end dates and the summer season fill up first, so book those earlier. We also try to fit short-notice moves when a crew is free.
Are my belongings protected during the move?
Yes. On interstate moves, federal rules require movers to offer two options. Released Value protection is included at no extra charge but covers only 60 cents per pound per article. Full Value Protection costs more and makes the mover liable for the replacement value of lost or damaged items, subject to the terms of your estimate.
Do I have to pack everything myself?
No. We can pack the whole home, or you can leave the fragile items to us and box up clothing and books yourself.
