Apartment and high-rise moving

Apartment and high-rise moves depend on the building: elevator reservations, insurance paperwork, long carries and stairs. We plan around those before the truck arrives.

Apartment and high-rise moving covers buildings where access sets the pace of the job. Most buildings require a reserved freight or service elevator, a certificate of insurance and a set move window.

Each building is different. When the elevator is large and available, the move goes quickly. When items have to go down narrow stairs or travel a long hallway to the truck, we add crew and time. An exterior furniture hoist is used only when an item will not fit the elevator or stairwell.

Process

From building check to loading

  1. 01

    Building check

We ask about elevator size, loading dock or curb access, the distance from the door to the truck, and any stairs or tight turns.

  2. 02

    Paperwork

We send the certificate of insurance your building asks for and help you reserve the elevator and move window with management.

  3. 03

    Protection

Elevator walls get padded, and floors and door frames in hallways are covered before anything moves.

  4. 04

    Carry

Items go out through the reserved elevator or down the stairs on dollies. Long carries get an extra crew member so the truck keeps loading.

  5. 05

    New building

The same steps happen in reverse at the new address. If one building is a walk-up, we plan for stairs only on that end.

FAQ

Questions about this service

What is a certificate of insurance and why does my building want one?

It is a document from our insurer that names your building as a certificate holder for the move. Many apartment buildings and condos require it before they will reserve the elevator. Send us management's requirements and we will request it.

Do you charge extra for stairs?

Stairs add time, so they are part of the estimate. The number of flights at each address is one of the inputs in the calculator.

When is an exterior hoist needed?

Only when a large item cannot fit through the stairwell or elevator, even after disassembly. We check this during the estimate, and the building's permission is required.
